A SOLUTION IN CYPRUS DIFFICULT UNTIL APRIL, CHRISTOFIAS

The leader of Greek Cypriot administration Demetris Christofias told Turkey's Zaman daily that a solution in Cyprus seemed difficult until April 2010. Christofias said that an agreement in Cyprus would not be reached at least until April 2010, the month when Turkish Cypriots will elect their new president.

TURKEY MORE CRUCIAL FOR WORLD THAN 10 YEARS AGO, FORMER US PRESIDENT CLINTON

One of the former US presidents Bill Clinton said Monday that Turkey was more crucial for the world than it was 10 years ago. Compared to a decade ago, Turkey's role in the world has grown immensely, Clinton said at a conference in İstanbul.

FIRST VACCINATION TO HEALTH STAFF

The first group of people who received vaccinations against swine flu in Turkey on Monday were individuals working in the health sector. Turkish hajjis who will travel to Mecca are another group that will receive vaccinations against swine flu in 81 provinces.

SNOW IN CAPITAL

Turkish capital Ankara received the first snowfall of the season on Monday morning. Another central Anatolian province Kayseri also received heavy snowfall early on Monday. Snow thickness at Kayseri's Erciyes mountain reached 10 centimeters.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS PRIVILEGED PARTNERSHIP

Recalling that the EU began membership negotiations with Turkey with the unanimity of its member states, President Abdullah Gül said regarding "privileged partnership" proposal of Germany and France, "there is no such thing as a limited membership in the EU. We expect loyalty to signature and pacta sund servanda from member countries."

DEMOCRATIC MOVE AT PARLIAMENT ON NOV. 10

State Minister & Deputy Premier Cemil Cicek said that they were planning to discuss "democratic move" at Parliament on November 10.

CLINTON: TURKEY BIG ACTOR OF CENTURY

Bill Clinton, one of former presidents of the United States, who attended a conference in İstanbul on "Leadership for Sustainable Success" as speaker, said that he had seen --during his presidency-- that Turkey would be one of the most important countries of the 21st century, adding that Turkey should activate its own potential.

GÜL SENDS MESSAGE TO WEST

Turkish President Abdullah Gül sent a message to the West after certain circles argued that Turkey was changing its direction. Gül said that those, who were making comments that Turkey was changing direction, did so due to three reasons: sincerity, jealousy or ignorance. Many see that Turkey is a shining star, Gül said. Pivots of influence are shifting to the advantage of Turkey, Gül stressed. "Some are jealous about this. What is important for us is to reach EU standards," Gül also said.

DEATH TOLL FROM SWINE FLU IN TURKEY RISES TO 9

Swine flu continues to claim lives in Turkey. Vaccinations against swine flu began in Turkey on Monday. Nine Turks lost lives due to swine flu in the past 10 days.

SIX VICTIMS IN 22 HOURS

Turkey was shaken with swine flu deaths. Following three swine flu victims, which were reported two days ago, three more deaths were reported from the southeastern province of Sanliurfa, İstanbul and Ankara yesterday. Death toll increases to nine.

FIRST VACCINATION TO DIRECTORS

Nearly 350,000 health personnel and prospective hajjis were started to be vaccinated against swine flu. Ankara provincial health director Mustafa Aksoy and İstanbul provincial health director Ali İhsan Dokucu were the first ones who were vaccinated. Meanwhile, Health Minister Recep Akdag said, "although the reported swine flu cases are around 1,800, we think the number is higher than that."

PARLIAMENT MAY DISCUSS DEMOCRATIC MOVE ON NOV. 10

Deputy Premier Cemil Cicek said that they were planning to discuss democratic move activities at Parliament on November 10. He said, "we will talk to the groups of our political parties and we may take this issue onto the agenda next week."

YOU JUST PLAY YOUR GAME

The board of Diyarbakirspor, a Turkish soccer team in Turkcell Super League, decided not to play its next game (against another Turkcell Super League team Galatasaray). The board made this decision to protest racist slogans and biased attitudes of referees after Diyarbakirspor were defeated by Gaziantepspor 2-1 in an away game. However, civil society organizations in (the southeastern province of) Diyarbakir did not extend support to the decision of the board.

DEATH TOLL RISES TO NINE IN SWINE FLU

13-year-old Betul Bilgili from İstanbul, 4-year-old Elif Firathan from the southeastern province of Sanliurfa and a 65-year-old woman from Ankara died of swine flu yesterday. Death toll in swine flu reached nine.

NO ONE HAS RIGHT TO NEGATIVELY AFFECT TURKEY'S EU PROCESS, GÜL

Turkish President Abdullah Gül held talks in Slovakian capital of Bratislava on Monday. Thanking Slovakia for its support to Turkey's EU bid, Gül said that "no one has, directly or indirectly, the right to negatively affect Turkey's EU process".

"DEMOCRATIC MOVE" AT TURKISH PARLIAMENT ON NOVEMBER 10

Turkish government spokesman and Deputy Premier Cemil Cicek said Monday that the "democratic move" of the government would be discussed at the Turkish Parliament on Tuesday, November 10.

SLOVAKIAN SUPPORT

President Abdullah Gül, who is travelling to Slavic countries, visited Slovakia after Serbia. President Ivan Gasparovic of Slovakia said that Slovakia supported Turkey's full membership to the EU.

TURKEY ON CENTER OF CHANGE

Muhtar Kent, Turkish CEO of Coca-Cola, said that radical changes would happen in the world within the next ten years. Kent noted, "it will be seen that 60 percent of 1 trillion USD of fortune was coming from developing countries. Turkey, together with countries like China, India, Mexico, will rise. A new middle class worth of one billion will appear."
