8 soldiers testify in Poyrazköy probe

A group of eight soldiers gave testimony at the Beşiktaş courthouse in İstanbul on Friday as part of a probe into munitions unearthed in İstanbul’s Poyrazköy district in April.

The soldiers testified to civilian prosecutors conducting an ongoing probe into Ergenekon, a clandestine criminal organization accused of plotting to overthrow the government. The soldiers’ ranks were not made public. A large cache of munitions was unearthed during excavations on land owned by the İstek Foundation in İstanbul’s Poyrazköy district in April, sparking investigations that exposed military plots. Several members of the military have been interrogated by Ergenekon prosecutors in the past few weeks about the Poyrazköy discoveries.
